Villa Have To Step Up A Gear

Historically this tie is a close affair. It ought to be – Aston Villa vs Everton is the most played fixture in English football league history. This will be the 203rd league meeting between the sides, all of them in the top-flight (73 wins for Aston Villa, 76 for Everton).

In recent history, the Villans are the underdogs. Everton have won five and lost just one of their last eight Premier League matches held on Friday (W5 D2 L1), losing only to Stoke City in this run (December 2014).

Aston Villa have earned just one point from their last 45 available in the Premier League (W0 D1 L14). Their winless run of 15 games is their second longest in top-flight history (19 between August 2015-January 2016).

So it’s the Toffees that narrowly edge this one with the bookies. Villa are @21/10, the draw is @12/5 and the visitors are @7/4.

Looking for value in what is an unpredictable affair will require more patience than most of us are prepared to muster. Villa are pointless after their first two games and whilst Grealish is a moderately interesting player, there’s little else to indicate a visit from Everton will reinvigorate the Villa.
