Villa odds-on to go down

Sky Bet have cut Aston Villa’s odds to be relegated to 8/13 from evens following last night’s Premier League defeat to Newcastle.

Villa, one of seven mainstay clubs since the Premier League began, were as long as 7/1 to be relegated before the season began.

They plunged into the drop zone following the 2-1 loss to Alan Pardew’s men, which was their fourth successive home defeat in the league.

Villa boss Paul Lambert already headed Sky Bet’s next Premier League manager to go market, but his latest setback saw his price cut from 11/8 to 4/7.

Sky Bet football trader Chris Spicer said: “Newcastle were on a bad run themselves, but we made the visitors the favourites ahead of kick-off, such is our lack of confidence in Villa at the minute.

“The club is in disarray, will the board support Lambert in the last two days of the transfer market or cut their losses and run the risk of tasking another manager with his squad?
