Signore Piccolo has been given a chance by the handicapper and looks decent each-way value at 14/1 in the 6.30 at York this evening.

David O’Meara’s geld was last successful at Catterickm 12 months ago when keeping on well from off the pace to win by 1 1/2 lengths off a mark of 82.

He also ran well on his final two starts of 2015 whne 10th of 25 in the Ayr Bronze Cup off 87 and eight of 17 to Mukaynis in a competitive affair at Haydock off 85.

The five-year-old is now able to race off just 77, 5lb lower than when last successful, and although yet to trouble the judged in three runs this season hasn’t shaped too badly.

On each occasion he has travelled on the heels of the leaders until fading approaching the final furlong, and the handicapper has been quick to cut him plenty of slack.

To me those efforts suggest he could be building up to something, and with those three runs coming quickly after a 211-day break Signore Piccolo should now be spot on to do himself justice.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Signore Piccolo (14/1 BetVictor, William Hill – BOG)
