Well-treated Plover worth a punt at 12s

Plover runs off a career-low mark in the 4.20 at Lingfield today and looks worth an interest at 12/1 now partnered by Jim Crowley for the first time.

The mare looked a smart prospect when bolting up by 8 lengths at Kempton on her second start for Sir Michael Stoute back in June 2013, and was allotted an initial handicap mark of 88 on the back of that effort.

However she didn’t progress as expected and has since failed to trouble the judge in 14 starts.

That has resulted in her handicap mark plummetting, and the five-year-old now gets into this off just 55 having shaped quite nicely in her last two starts.

In the first of those she kept on from well off the pace after being steadied at the start to finish a never nearer 2 1/2 length fourth of nien to Sea Soldier, and the winner has gone on to score again since.

Plover, who is now in the care of Michael Attwater, then ran a similar sort of race last time out when seventh of 13 to Sabre Rock having been poorly positioned.

To me those runs showed that she retained enough ability to win a race of this nature off her current mark, and having been partnered by an inexperienced 7lb claimer in her last two runs Plover now gets the professional services of Jim Crowley in the saddle.

That could make all the difference as Plover is clearly not straightforward, and off her current rating she is now too well-treated to ignore in this line-up.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Plover (12/1 BetVictor – BOG)
