Safwaan is on a handy mark at present and looks worth an each-way wager at 20/1 in the 5.55 at Kempton this evening.
All three of the geldings’ wins on the all-weather have been at Wolverhampton, with the last of those coming in a 1m 1f contest last July off his current mark of 57 when trained by Gary Harrison.
He then disappointed in his next four starts, before putting in a string of solid efforts for his new handler Mike Squance.
All of those runs came at today’s track, and he ran particularly well on the first occasion when finishing a 1 1/2 length third of 13 to Spirit Of Gondree.
The selection also backed up that effort with three solid runs before bombing out last time behind Self Employed last time out.
However, the front running tactics employed that day were totally against him, and it would be no surprise to see him fare far better if connections decided to revert to the usual hold-up tactics.
He also now gets into this off a mark of 56 – 1lb lower than when last successful – and looks weighted to go well in the hands of John Fahy from a good draw in stall 2.
Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Safwaan (20/1 Hills, Stan James – BOG)
