Lee Westwood left the rest of the big names trailing as he powered his way to a one shot lead in the first round of the Masters and is now 4/1 favourite for outright victory.

England’s world number three fired a five-under-par 67 to lead by one from 2010 Open champion Louis Oosthuizen (16/1) and Ryder Cup team-mate Peter Hanson (35/1) at Augusta.

Another former Open champion, Paul Lawrie of Scotland (66/1), shot 69 to share third with Spain’s Miguel Angel Jimenez 950/1), Italian Francesco Molinari (55/1) and Americans Ben Crane (70/1), Jason Dufner (33/1) and Bubba Watson (20/1).

The Englishman leads the way at five-under-par with former Open champion Louis Oosthuizen (16/1, general) and Peter Hanson (35/1, Blue Square) putting him under pressure just one shot further back.

Rory McIlroy ended his round with two birdies to shoot one under and the Northern Irishman is second in the betting at 6/1.

Tiger Woods failed to sparkle as he shot a level par 72 after hitting “some of the worst shots I’ve ever hit” and the four-time Masters champion is out to 8/1.

Luke Donald shot a three over 75 and is eight shots behind Westwood. He is out to 50/1 in the betting.
