The last race at Plumpton is sponsored by local catering company Strong Flavours who have been setting the benchmark for racecourse grub at Plumpton for some time now (a shout out to Graham for changing the foodie landscape), and I look forward to seeing if he hands out the winner’s prize himself – or will he be too busy in the kitchens!
If the formbook stands up there is every chance he will be congratulating the connections of Colours On Canvas, who has been a revelation since being stepped up to this trip. A win and a place from his first four starts showed some ability, but the added half mile here has seen him win his last two – by 12 lengths in February and by 14 lengths earlier in March.
He has been put up 10lb for his last victory, and with Premier Raceday prize money up for grabs he is up against far better opposition this afternoon, but Plumpton is a specialist course historically, and we may yet see the son of Buck’s Boum land his C&D hat-trick.
