Speed Counts At Catterick

Value looks rarer than rocking horse doo dah this afternoon with small fields everywhere you look, so we may have to settle for shorter prices – and hope they win for us in the countdown to Cheltenham. Absolutely nothing stands out at Plumpton other than the odds-on shots, and that sends me to heavy going at Catterick and the opener at 1.30pm where Speed Davis looks a worthy favourite.

A point-to-point winner at Boulta in Ireland on debut he was sold on for £105,000 at the sales before being beaten nine lengths in a Kelso bumper when sent off the 2/1 favourite. He did show that form to be all wrong with an easy five-length victory in a second bumper at Sedgefield, and as he is expected to be far better over hurdles (and eventually over fences), this looks like a good opportunity for another success.
