12/1 about Barnet more than Fair in Scottish Stewards’ Cup

Barnet Fair has been shaping as if ready to go in again and at 12/1 makes plenty of appeal in the Scottish Stewards’ Cup at Hamilton tonight (7.45).

The gelding is a useful sprint handicapper, as he showed when winning a valuable contest at Ascot last july where he ran on strongly to beat Taajub by a neck off a mark of 88.

He went on to finish a solid fourth on his final two starts of 2012 off 91 and 92, and now gets into this off the former mark having caught the eye in his last two efforts.

The first of those came at Musselburgh where he stayed on to finish third of 17 to Kingsgate Choice in a contest which has a strong look to it.

The five-year-old then got no luck in running whatsoever at Ascot last week when 15th of 19 to Masamah, but he was not knocked about and I am more than prepared to put a line through that effort and give him another chnace.

To me he seems to be approaching his peak, and off just 3lb higher than his last win is certainly on a mark which he is capable of winning a race of this nature off.

He also has the services of the promising apprentice Connor Beasley who takes another 7lb off his back, and with conditions ideal a big run looks assured.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Barnet Fair (12/1 Ladbrokes)
