Mappin Time looks magic at 8s

Mappin Time will relish the lightning fast conditions at Haydock today and is strongly fancied at 8/1 to land the 3.50.

Tim Easterby’s charge last scored when winning on firm ground over course and distance last May where he ran on strongly to beat Seeking Magic by a length off a mark of 81.

He now gets into this off 2lb lower having posted four solid efforts in his last fivestarts.

The five-year-old arguably put up his best performance in that trio when beaten third of 12 to Bonnie Charlie over course and distance.

Held-up that day, he made smooth headway to throw down a challenge at the furlong marker and found himself a bit short of room at a vital stage before being unable to find any extra close home.

In the end he was only beaten a 1/4 of a length, and he went on to back that up with a solid close-up fourth of 12 to Meandmyshadow at Catterick on good-to-soft ground which would have been against him.

He then found 7f to far when well beaten at York before running a decent race at Doncaster when returned to 6f and finishing fourth of 13 to Dark Castle.

That was followed by a solid fourth to Pea Shooter here last time out, since when he has been dropped 1lb.

With plenty of pace in the line-up he should also get the strong gallop he needs to be seen at his best, and everything looks in place for him to score a deserved success.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 3pts each-way Mappin Time (8/1 bet365 – BOG)
