Aldreth looks worth a wager at 12/1 in the 9.20 at Wolverhampton tonight now dropped back down in grade from what looks a workable mark.

Mick Easterby’s charge failed to cut any ice in four maidens runs last season, but was never placed to challenge in any and didn’t run too badly on the final occasion when 10th of 15 to Mayfield Boy over a mile at York.

The son of Champs Elysees was held-up and took a keen hold that day before keeping on to be beaten 8 1/2 lengths under a tender ride.

He looked to be being brought along with handicaps in mind, and his runs this season have confirmed that view and brought about much improved efforts.

In the first of those over course and distance he was slowly away before making headway under pressure to lead two from home before weakening late on to finish fourth off an opening mark of 57.

The three-year-old then went down by just 1 1/4 lengths in soft ground over 1m 1f at Redcar in a class 5 contest, and finished an excellent second of 11 to Tower Power over 1m 2f at Ripon in a similar grade affair off today’s mark of 57.

The winner has gone on to score again since, and the third home Truancy has since rattled up a hat-trick of successes.

That gives the form a solid look in the context of this class 6 contest, and although Aldreth has not been at his best in his last two starts (over 1m 2f and 1m 4f) he could well bounce back now dropped back to 1m 1f if taking to the new Tapeta surface.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Aldreth (12/1 generally available – use BOG firms)
