Picot de Say has slipped to a very handy mark and makes plenty of each-way appeal at 12/1 in the 5.10 at Newton Abbot.
Bernard Llewlellyn’s gelding was once rated as high as 124 over hurdeles but is now running off just 104.
His last win came off 110 back in May 2009 when hen trained by Craig Roberts, and he has been running well enough on the flat of late to suggest he can take advatange of his reduced mark over the obstacles.
He also caught the eye over hurdles on his latest start, when a close up 5th of 9 to Illysantachristina at this track over 2m 1f.
The nine-year-old stayed on at the same pace having held every chance three oput to be beaten just 3 1/2 lengths, and shaped as if the step up in trip to today’s 2m 6f would suit.
There is no doubt in my mind that he is weighted to take all the beating in this if building on that effort, and with Mark Quinlan taking off a useful 5lb everything looks in place for a huge run.
