Beverley Previews & Tips

7/1 Steel Stockholder a solid bet

Steel Stockholder went into my notebook as a sure fire future winner last time out and makes plenty of appeal at 7/1 in the 3.00 at Beverley.

Mel Brittain’s charge made good late headway without being knocked about to finish a never nearer 7th of 18 to Blue Jazz in a decent contest at York on his second outing after a 347 day lay off.

He shaped really well having run just 24 hours earlier and should now be fit enough to do himself justice.

The gelding is certainly handicapped to go close, as he is 2lb lower than when last scoring at Wolverhampton back in January 2010.

He ran on really strongly that day to beat some decent yardsticks, and looks to have plenty in his favour this afternoon.

Another plus is that his trainer has a 27.27% strike rate at the track in the past 12 months having saddled six winners and 8 placed horses from 22 runners.

At the 7/1 on offer he looks an each-way steal in a weak looking contest.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Steel Stockholder (7/1 general available – BOG firms)

Ice Blast looks hot stuff at 18/1

Ice Blast has slipped to a career-low mark and looks worth chancing at 18/1 in the 4.30 at Beverley.

Mick Easterby’s gelding should have won on his seasonal reappearance at Mussleburgh over today’s trip, but didn’t get the best of rides or runs during the race and failed by a short-head to catch Ventura Sands.

He than made no mistake next time out at Thirsk when dropped back to 6f, where despite rearing at the start he stayed on powerfully to pull three lengths clear of Jade off a mark of 72.

The handicapper whacked him up 8lb as a result, but he put in a fine effort of his revised rating when finishing a two length third to Common Touch from 3lb out of the handicap in race at York.

He was then well beaten behind St Leger favourite Sea Moon in a handicap over 1m 2f at the Knavesmire, where he quite blatantly failed to get home.

It’s true that since then he has put in six below par efforts, but as a result he has now dropped down to a mark of 66 and is 6lb lower than when scoring so impressively at Thirsk.

That gives him a great chance of being really competitive in this, and with the trip and ground ideal he looks the type who could bounce back with a vengeance at a big price.

In my eyes he is too big a price at 18s with Boylesports, and definitely worth an interest.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Ice Blast (18/1 Boylesports – BOG)
