14/1 Flying Pursuit the Scottish Stewards’ Cup choice

Nothing went right for Flying Pursuit when he ran at Ripon four days ago and he looks worth an each-way punt at 14/1 in the Scottish Stewards’ Cup at Hamilton today (7.20).

Tim Easterby’s charge, who was heavily punted into 5/2 favourite, missed the break and found himself playing catch-up and short of room for much of the race.

In the end he stayed on late to finish a 2 3/4 lengths fourth of six to Pipers Note. Given that he likes to race prominently it wasn’t too bad an effort and a step back in the right direction.

The five-year-old enjoyed a terrific time last season when winning three times, showing a good attitude in the last of those when scoring by 1/2 a at Ripon off 96.

Flying Pursuit when on to be placed in his next two starts off 101 before rounding off the campaign with a decent eighth of 14 to Dream Of Dreams in a Listed contest at Doncaster.

He returned to action off a career-high mark of 103 and is now able to race off 96 – the same as when last successful.

It gives him every chance at teh weights on the pick of his form, especially now reunited with Rachel Richardson who has a 33% strike rate on him (3 win and 2 places from 10 starts) and takes off a handy 3lb with her claim.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Flying Pursuit (14/1 bet365, BetVictor, Betfair, Paddy Power, William Hill – BOG)
