14/1 Emerald the Spring Mile punt

Emerald has a progressive profile and makes plenty of appeal at 14/1 in the Spring Mile at Doncaster today (2.15).

Marco Botti’s gleding has only had five starts, and came good at the third time of asking when easily landing a 1m maiden at Nottingham by four lengths.

Emerald was then far from disgraced when fifth on handicap debut at York, before gloing on to round off the campaign with a career-best effort to land a competitive 11-runner contest on soft ground at Newmarket.

The four-year-old was slowly away in the latter, but made stealthy hedaway two two from home and after being produced to challenge at the furlong marker showed a good turn of foot to win going aeay by by 1 1/2 lengths.

A 4lb rise for that victory looks on the lenient side, and a rating of 87 could seriosuly underestimate Emerald’s ability.

With the ground fine, the propsect of more improvement to come, and William Buick in the saddle everytthing looks in place for a huge run.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Emerald (14/1 Betfred, BetVictor, Stan James, Sky Bet – BOG)
