20/1 Liscahill Karella too big to ignore

Anything saddled by the shrewd Daniel Mark Loughnane always deserves as second look, and his Liscahill Karella makes plenty of each-way appeal at 20/1 in the 4.35 at Southwell.

The gelding showed he had ability when second of 18 to Mr Joe Platinum  only his second start over the obstacles at Limerick back in 2008, but got badly injured and subsequently spent 1241 days on the sidelines.

However he didn’t shape too badly on his belated comeback at Punchestown in October when finishing 10th of 24 to the useful Il Fenomeno.

Although eventually beaten 55 lengths, ran far better than his finishing position suggests.

Held up at the rear of the field he made late headway two from home and kept on at the one pace without being knocked about.

He was then never better than mid-division when finishing 9th of 17 to St Killan’s Run in a handicap hurdle at Thurles off 85 before flopping at Uttoxeter.

His next run here however saw him put in a far better effort when finishing fourth fo 15 to Tickatack after making good headway from the rear before being hampered three out and weakening close home.

Although he failed to back that up on his latest start he was never placed into the contest won by Clever Dick at anytime, and it looks to me as if connections are lining him up for a punt.

The handicapper has certainly given him a chance off a mark of 80, and on his best form 20/1 is too big in a race of this nature.

At those odds he has to be worth an each-way play.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Licahill Karella (20/1 generally available – use BOG firms)
