Orwellian is back down to a handy mark and looks worth an each-way wager at 20/1 in the 3.55 at Recar today now stepped back up in trip.

Bryan Smart’s charge was successful three times last year, with the last of those victories coming at Newcastle over 7f on good-to-soft ground off a mark of 65.

The six-year-old was put up to 71 for that triumph and has failed to trouble the judge in just four starts this season.

However, Orwellian caught the eye in the the last of thsoe over 6f at Thirsk when after being slowly away and outapce he stayed on under tender handling to finish eighth of 14 to Grissom off a mark of 70.

It was an effort which suggested he could be coming back to the boil and theassessor has since dropped him 3lb to 67.

That is just 2lb higher than when last successful, and the step back up to 7f following three spins over 6f looks sure to suit.

Smart also does pretty well with his runners at the venue (strike rate of 15%) and with Joe Fanning in the saddle Orwellian looks weighted to go wll at a big price.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Orwellian (20/1 Ladbrokes, Sky Bet – BOG)
