4/1 Court Minstrel a Champion bet at Ayr

Court Minstrel will relish the drying conditions at Ayr and rates a solid bet at 4/1 to land the Scottish Champion Hurdle (2.40).

Evan Williams charge had some useful bumper form to his name and created a huge impression when scoring on his hurdling debut at Cheltenham.

Held-up that day, he travelled strongly throughout and after making smooth headway and not getting a clear run two out led at the last before quickening clear to impressively beat The Romford Pele by 3 3/4 lengths.

He then appeared to be given too much to do when finishing third to Doging Bullets in a grade 2 contest at the same venue before finding testing conditions all against him when fourth to Melodic Rendezvous at Sandown.

The six-year-old then made a mockery of his opening handicap mark at Plumpton last time out in the Sussex Champion Hurdle where he showed a useful turn of foot to beat Specialagent Alfie with far more in hand than the winning margin of 2 1/2 lengths suggests.

The handicapper has hit him with a 10lb rise for that success, but he is a really classy sort who has plenty more to offer and the good ground he will get today is what he has been crying out for.

Given that he was given a poor ride when beaten just 3 lengths by the 156 rated Dodging Bullets he could still be well ahead of the assessor off his current mark of 141, and with Adam Wedge in the saddle taking another 3lb off his back he looks the one they all have to beat.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 4pts win Court Minstrel (4/1 generally available – use BOG firms)
