5/1 Legendary looks lovely at Lingfield

Legendary shaped really well on his recent comeback run and is strongly fancied at 5/1 in  the 3.00 at Lingfield today.

Ed Vaughan’s gelding reserves his best for the ploytrack surface and has won twice and finished runner-up on the three occasions on it.

He was most impressive in the last of those successes over a mikle at kempton back in June where after treacking the leaders that day he took up the running a furlong from home powered clear to beat Wilfred Pickles by 6 lengths off a mark of 75.

The four-year-old looked sure to win more races judged on that effort but got turned over at odds-on 7 days later when runner-up to Silver Alliance on the turf at Yarmouth and then disappointed at Doncaster shortly after when finishing just 7th of 9 to Storm King.

It may well have been that those races came too quickly for him, and he has the given a 145-day break before reappearing at Kempton last month and finishing fourth of 11 to Dixie’s Dream.

Although eventually beaten 6 lengths that day he ran far better than that suggests, travelling well for much of the contest until being unable to make any impression on the leading pair after going third two from home and then weakening inside the last.

The way he ran that dya suggested he needed the race, and with that run under his belt he should now be spot on to do himself justice.

The handicapper has also been kind in quickly dropping him 2lb to a mark of 83 and with Jimmy Quinn in the saddle he looks the one they all have to beat.
