5/1 Shoes can leave bookies feeling Blue

Tim Easterby’s Blue Shoes has plenty going for her in the 4.40 at Ripon and rates a solid punt at 5/1.

The filly held her form well last year, finishing in the frame five times before duly gaining reward for her consistency when making virtually all to land a 6f contest in the mud at Carlisle by 2 1/4 lengths from Phoenix Club’s off a mark of 64.

She then wasn’t at her best on her next start, but quickly bounced back on her finals start of 2012 when finishing a solid third of 11 to Half A Billion over 6f at Catterick.

The daughter of Kodiac was then off the track for 172 days before making her reappearance at Thirsk over 6f on good ground last month where she showed good speed to lead for three furlongs on the far side and remained right in the firing line until weakening out of contention at the furlong marker.

That run should have sharpened her up significantly, and she showed enough to suggest that she would win more races when conditions where in her favour.

She now gets the cut in the ground that she relishes, and having quickly been dropped 2lb by the handicapper gets into this off what looks an exploitable mark of 67.

That is just 3lb higher than when she was last successful, and although she is yet to win over today’s minimum 5f trip she has bags of speed and is drawn to attack in stall 12.

She could prove extremely difficult to peg back if allowed her own way up front, and another plus is that her yard are beginning to hit form.
