Memory Cloth handicapped to wipe out his rivals

Memory Cloth has been given a big chance by the handicapper and is strongly fancied at 4/1 to take advantage in the 3.40 at Ripon today under his ideal conditions.

The gelding had some useful form in France before joining Brian Ellison and showed good form in his first season for his new handler when landing two handicaps.

The first of those successes came over course and distance where he ran on strongly to slam Silvery Moon by 3 1/4 lengths off a mark of 82.

He then ran three solid races to be placed off marks of 95 and 96 before getting back on the winning trail in a 7f contest at Newcastle.

The six-year-old made all that day and kept on gamely to beat Brae Hill by a length off a mark of 96 after which he form tailed off in four subsequent outings.

It’s fair to say that he didn’t show too much in his first two starts this year, but he did shape very well on his penultimate start at Newbury when 7th of 25 to Half a Sixpence in the Spring Cup off a a mark of 95 before being well beaten last time out at Newmarket.

However the quick going at headquarters that day would have been totally against him, and he has since been dropped a further 3lb by the assessor to a mark of 90.

That means that he is now 6lb below his last winning mark and gives him a huge chance at the weights.

He is just the type to bounce back and take advantage now that he gets the cut in the ground that he relishes, and on the pick of his form he should take all the beating in this off his current mark.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 3pts win Memory Cloth (4/1 generally available – use BOG firms)
