Kerrymerry makes his eagerly awaited handicap debut in the 2.10 at Southwell today and is of major interest at 6/1.

Ismail Mohammed’s colt has hinted at ability in three “quiet” maiden runs and looks the type who has been brought along with nurseries in mind.

He went into my notebook on his second start when sent off 100/1 before keeping on at the one pace to finish fifth of 13 to Bartel over 7f at Yarmouth.

Although beaten 13 lengths, he was not knocked about in what looked a hot class 5 maiden.

Both the winner, and the runner-up Spiriting are nice types, and the third and fourth home – Explain and Firmament – have both come out and won since.

That gives the form a strong look in the context of this class 6 contest, and makes Kerrymerry’s opening mark of 55 look exploitable.

The son of Vale Of York is certainly bred to be better than it, and her handler has done well with the few horses he has sent to the track.

Mohammed has saddled just 10 runners at the venue, resulting in 2 winners and 5 placed horses for a strike rate of 20%.

The boooking of Adam Kirby also suggests that connections mean business as Kerrymerry has been partnered by a 7lb claimer in all starts to date.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 3pts win Kerrymerry (6/1 bet365, BetVictor Coral, William Hill – BOG)
