8/1 Dhaafer a standout bet at Leicester

Dhaafer has slipped down to a handy mark and with the visor fitted for the first time looks solid each-way value at 8/1 in the 3.00 at Leicester today.

Alan King’s gelding hasn’t shown much in two runs this season but has been dropped 3ln in the weights as a result and that makes him look nicely in on the picks of last season’s form.

The four-year-old had some really solid form as a juvenile and ran an absolute stormer to be third of 23 to What a Charm in the ultra-competitive Fred Winter at the Cheltenham Festival off a mark of 119.

That form looks extremely strong in the context of this contest and he is now running off the same rating having started the campaign on 122.

That gives him an outstanding chance from a handicapping perspective if the new headgear has the desired effect, and with his stable in flying form it would be no surprise to see him put up a much improved effort this afternoon.

He is now only 2lb higher than when slamming Head Hunted to register his first victory over hurdles, and with the ground and trip fine he must take all the beating.

Fiendish Flame is the obvious one that he has to beat, but he receives 13lb from that rival and on his run in the Fred Winter I can’t see Donald McCain’s charge being able to give that much weight and a beating to him.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 3pts each-way Dhaafer (8/1 Ladbrokes – BOG)
