Gatepost has become dangerously well-treated and makes plenty of appeal at 8/1 to finally take advantage and score a long overdue success in the 4.10 at Windsor today.

The gelding has not scored since his juvenile days when trained by Mick Channon, where he looked a useful prospect when winning hos first two starts before finishing 5th of 23 to Power in the Group 2 Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot.

He was rated 109 after that effort, and now gets into this class 4 contest off a career-low of just 77.

That makes him potentially thrown-in on the pick of his form, and although it’s now a long time since he got his head in front he has run some solid races off much higher marks since joining Richard Fahey.

The four-year-old finished an excellent third of 16 to Fulbright in a class 2 contest at Newamrket over 6f on soft ground last season off 95 and also ran a stormer to finish a 3 length fifth of 23 to Mass Rally in the class 3 Ayr Silver Cup off 94 on heavy ground.

Those runs look extrenely strong in the context of this contest, and although he has not been at his best so far this season he has run well on a couple of occasions and is now simply too well-treated to ignore on ground which clearly suits.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 3pts each-way Gatepost (8/1 BetVictor, Paddy Power – BOG)
