The unexposed Mezel shaped with bags of promise on his recent comeback run and is of major interest at 8/1 in the 8.35 at Doncaster this evening from what looks a handy mark.

The son of Tamayuz came good at the second time of asking as a juvenile when trained by Sir Michael Stoute ,where he kept on well from off the pace to beat Free Code by 3/4 of a length in a 6f maiden at Doncaster.

The runner-up went on to win his next two starts and is now rated 89, and that makes Mezel look well-treated in this off 77.

The selection then ran better than the bare result indicates on his handicap debut over 7f at Goodwood, where he kept on nicely to be finish a 4 1/4 length fifth of 11 to Art Official off his current mark.

It was an effort which suggested that he would be capable of winning more races this season, as he looked far from the finished article and open to plenty more improvement once he strengthened up.

He confirmed that impression on his recent comeback run on his first start for John Hills, where he was a huge drifter in the market before finishing an eye-catching fourth of 9 to Aertex at Lingfield.

After being held-up at the rear Mezel stayed on nicely under tender handling to be beaten 2 3/4 lengths, leaving the distinct impression that he would come on for the run and be winning sooner rather than later.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 3pts win Mezel (8/1 bet365 – BOG)
