The unexposed Mezel looks on a handy mark in the 3.35 at Lingfield today and worth a wager at 9/1 to make a winning debut for John Hills.
The son of Tamayuz was trained by Sir Michael Stoute and came good at the second time of asking as a juvenile when keeping on well from off the pace to beat Free Code by 3/4 of a length in a 6f maiden at Doncaster.
The runner-up went on to win his next two starts and is now rated 89, and that makes Mezel look well-treated in this off 77.
The selection then ran better than the bare result indicates on his handicap debut over 7f at Goodwood, where he kept on nicely to be finish a 4 1/4 length fifth of 11 to Art Official off his current mark.
It was an effort which suggested that he would be capable of winning more races this season, as he looked far from the finished article and open to plenty more improvement once he strengthened up.
It’s also interesting that he has since been gelded, and with his new handler in decent form looks weighted to take the beating in the hands of Paul Hanagan.
Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Mezel (9/1 Coral, Ladbrokes, Paddy Power, Stan James – BOG)
