9/1 Mighty Yar can deliver under Dettori

The lightly-raced and progressive Mighty Yar makes plenty of appeal at 9/1 in the Ebor at York today (3.50).

Lady Jane Cecil’s colt made it three wins from four starts when scoring at Newmarket back in May, running on strongly to beat Miss Marjurie by a cosy 1/2 a length.

The four-year-old scored with mire in hand than the winning margin suggests, and it was a performance which suggested Mighty Yar needed keeping firmly onside.

Things haven’t gone to plan in two subsequent starts, where Mighty Yar has run far better than the final result indicates on both occasions.

In the first of those at Newamrket, he blew the start before staying on to finish a two length third of 14 to De Rigeur – leaving the impression that he would have gone very close to landing the spoils if he had broke on level terms.

Mighty Yar then stumbled at the start last time out in 1m 4f contest at this venue when jockey Graham Lee was lucky to stay in the saddle, before running a reamarkable race to go down by just 1/2 a length to the progressive Kings Fete.

The son of Teofilo was gaining all the way to the line, and it was a superb effort in the circumstances.

Although Mighty Yar has been put up 4lb for that run, that looks more than fair given how things panned out and after only six career starts he remains unexposed and open to further progression.

The step up to 1m 6f should also suit, and with Frankie Dettori in the saddle and a good draw to explit in stall 8 everything looks in place for a massive run.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 3pts each-way Mighty Yar (9/1 Betfred, Coral, Stan James – BOG)
