Aldershot v Manu Carling Cup Preview

Aldershot play host to Manchester United in the Carling Cup tonight (7.45pm KO, Live on Sky Sports 2) and could find themselves on the receiving end of a drubbing following the Reds humiliating Derby defeat against City.

Sir Alex Ferguson is sure to have read the riot act to his players following their 6-1 thrashing on Sunday, and although he is sure to rest several first team players his side are 1/4 to win this and will be out to bounce back to winning ways and prove a point.

United’s strong squad means and Michael Owen, Dimitar Berbatov, Antonio Valencia and Michael Carrick could all feature tonight.

That’s not good news for the Shots, and United have never been knocked out by a team from the fourth tier.

An easy win for United looks on the cards, and it would be the club’s 100th in this competition.

However backing them at 1/4 is not my cup of tea, and it’s backing Michael Owen in a couple of market that makes plenty of appeal value wise.

Owen is 5/1 with Betfred and Totesport to net the opener and that looks cracking value given his strike rate when given a start. He is as short a 5/2 with Stan James, so you can easily see why the 5s on offer should be snapped up.

He is also generally odds-on and as short as 4/7 – to net anytime during the 90 minutes. So the standout 5/4 on offer with Victor Chandler also looks a great play.
