Beau Lake shaped as if needing his reapperance run and looks decent value at 7/1 in the 1.20 at Uttoxeter today now eased in grade.
Suzy Smith’s gelding was a dual winner in the mud in class 3 contests at Fontwell this time last year, and in the last of those successes showed a good attitude to dig deep and beat Cappielow Park by a neck off a mark of 113.
The 11-year-old was then off the track for 330 days before reappearing in a class 3 contest at Haydock last month where he tracked the leaders until weakening two from home to finish a 14 1/4 length seventh of 8 to Baby King off a mark of 120.
Beau Lake has since been dropped 2lb to 118, and taking into account the 5lb claim of Harry Bannister is racing off the same mark as last successful.
He is also entitled to strip much fitter for that outing, and it’s interesting that he has won second time up on the last two seasons.
With underfoot conditions holding no fears, a big run looks on the cards now that Beau Lake drops down a grade into class 4 company.
