Burn’s Night boxing in London

Thursday night at the Millennium Hotel in London’s Mayfair promoter Mickey Helliet via his Mayfair Sporting Club staged his annual Burns Night black tie show and a cracking 4 fight card of boxing plus traditional Scottish fayre was on offer to the 100’s that attended in aid of the London Boxing Academy.

First up was Guernsey flyweight Brad Watson taking on Wolverhampton’s Delroy Spencer over 4 rounds and the durable journey man Spencer went the distance with the up and coming Watson winning on points 40-37, Next up Islington lightweight Charlie Rice took on Jason Nesbitt over 6 rounds with the experienced Nesbitt as usual going the distance and testing the younger Rice’s stamina over 6 rounds with Rice winning it on points 60-55. Third fight of this action packed card was Chesunt super-bantam Ashley Sexton (Who coincidentally had just been confirmed to fight in Belgium for the European title that day) taking on Mansfiled’s Pavels Senkovs in a 4 rounder and the pressure was on for Sexton as a slip up would de-rail his European dream, but Sexton came through and boxed well winning on points 40-37. Last but not least in an all Brighton local derby Lloyd Ellett won a closely fought 6 rounder at lightweight against the tough journeyman Kevin McCauley 58-57.
