Captain Swift ready to cut a dash at Ripon

Captain Swift caught the eye on seasonal reappearance and looks decent value at 17/2 in the 5.20 at Ripon today.

John Mackie’s gelding was last successful at Haydock nine months ago when keeping on strongly under pressure to score by 1 length in a class 5 contest off a mark of 67.

He has since failed to trouble the judge in two runs on the level in class 4 affairs, but shaped better than the bare result suggests in the last of those at Leicester last month when ninth of 13 to Mountain Rescue.

After being held-up, the five year-old made an effort a furlong from home before weakening to be beaten six lengths.

That was his first run for 182 days, and he shaped as if rusty and looks sure to strip much fitter for it.

He has since been eased another 1lb in the weights to 70, just 3lb higher than when last successful, and now drops back down into class 5 company.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts win Captain Swift (17/2 bet365 – BOG)
