Cheltenham Festival: Cause Of Causes and Carberry a potent combination

Gordon Elliott’s Cause Of Causes  looks to hold outstanding claims at 7/1 of landing the Kim Muir at Cheltenham today (4.40).

The JP McManus-owned gelding looks well-treated compared to the level of form he showed over hurdles and has clearly been brought along with this meeting in mind.

He held a host of entries over the four-day but connectiosn have decided to go for this amateur riders contest over 3m 2f.

It is a trip which should suit based on his last run when just getting  touched off in the valuable Paddy Power Chase at Leopardstown’s Christmas Festival over 3m.

The six-year-old was given plenty to do that day, and after being in only seventh place two from home stayed on in terrific style to be beaten justa short-head to Rockyaboya.

He would have won in another stride, and it was an effort which suggested an extra two furlongs would not be a problem.

The son of Dyanformer now has to run off a 7lb higher mark of 140, but he was a classy hurdler rated as high as 152 and was last successful off 149 over the smaller obstacles.

That makes his current chase mark loook very exploitable, and another plus is that he will have the services in the saddle of crack Irish amateur Nina Carberry.

She is one of the best in the business, and her knowledge and experience of riding around Cheltenham is a major asset.

To me Cause Of Causes looks to have everything going for him and is the one they all have to beat.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 3pts each-way Cause Of Causes (7/1 Stan James – BOG 1/4 odds 1,2,3,4,5, 7/1 generally available with other firms offering BOG but paying just 4 places)
