Circuitous posted a cracking effort last time out and is strongly fancied at 4/1 to score and overdue sucess in the 2.20 at Hamilton today now dropped back in trip and eased in grade.

Keith Dalgleish’s gelding is on a long losing run, having not scored since landing the 2013 running of the Ayr Bronze Cup over 6f.

Circuitous made all and held on gamely to land the competitive 27-runner class 2 contest by a head off a mark of 78, and also ran well to finish runner-up off the same rating on reappearance last season.

The seven-year-old’s form then tailed off badly, but that resulted in the handicapper cutting Circuitous plenty of slack and he is now able to race off just 63.

That is 15lb lower than when last victorious and gives Circuitous major claims from a handicapping perspective.

Circuitous also comes in the race on the back of a fine third of 14 to Oak Bluffs in a 7f class 5 contest at Ayr four days ago undere Joe Fanning, and is able to race off the same mark in this lower grade class 6 affair.

He also once again has the services of Fanning in the saddle, and he has won on him once and finished in the frame on eight occasions.

The drop back to 6f, over which Circuitous has been successful five times, is another plus and this week looking contest represents a great chance for him to get back in the winners’ enclosure.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 3pts win Circuitous (4/1 BetVictor, Ladbrokes, Paddy Power, Sky Bet – BOG)
