Class dropping Rockfella an 8/1 Bath beauty

Rockfella is back down below his last winning mark and looks worth siding with at 8/1 in the 3.05 at Bath today now dropped in class.

Denis Coakley’s gelding was last successful in a class 3 contest on soft ground at Salisbury back in May 2012 when making all and holding on gamely to beat Albert Bridge by a neck off a mark of 78.

The eight-year-old has been lightly raced since then, finising a fine third of 12 to Palazzo Bianco at Goodwood last May and a cracking 3/4 length runner-up to Whiplash Willie of soft ground in a class 3 contest at Salisbury on seasonal reappearance.

Although he then failed to back that up last time out at Ascot in another class 3 affair, he has since been given a break and has a cracking record fresh.

All the aformentioned runs have come after lengthy lay-offs, and Rockfella now drops down into class 4 company off a mark of 76.

That is 2lb lower than when last successful in the grade and gives him major claims from a handicapping perspective.

Another plus is that he is 1-1 over course and distance, and with underfoot conditions ideal he could prove extremely difficult to peg back in what looks a very winnable contest.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Rockfella (8/1 Stan James – BOG)
