Colourbearer has been given a big chance by the handicapper and makes plenty of appeal at 11/1 in the 2.30 at Southwell today.
Charlie Wallis’ charge was in terrific form last spring when rattling up a hat-trick, winning twice over course and distance off marks of 64 and 69 before scoring at Lingfield off 75.
The nine-year-old has failed to trouble the judge in eight subsequent starts, but that has reuslted in the assessor cutting him plenty of slack and he is now able to race in this off just 67.
That is 8lb lower than when last victorious, and below the rating of his last two successes.
It gives him major claims at the weights at a track where he is a three-time winner.
Although Colourbearer has not been at his best in two starts after 103 days on the sidelines, those runs on the polytrack at Chelmsford and Lingfield should have blow away the cobwebs and it would be no surprise to see him put in a much improved performance now returned to the fibresand surface.
This race should also be run at a strong gallop which will suit. and the booking of Luke Morris to do the steering is another positiove.
Daiy Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Colourbearer (11/1 generally available – use BOG firms)
