Comrade Bond has slipped to a handy mark and looks decent value at 10/1 in the 5.00 at Lingfield today.

Mark Tompkins’ has won four times and been placed on nine occasions in 29 starts on the turf, with his last success coming in a 7f contest at Yarmouth 12 months ago on good-to-soft ground.

The seven-year-old only had to be driven to beat Afkar by 1/1 a length off a mark of 70, and went on to finish a solid third of 12 to Eastern Dragon three starts later at Birghton on heavy ground off 71.

He is now able to race in this off 65, his lowest rating since October 2011 and 5lb lower than when last successful.

It gives him every chance from a handicapping perpsective, and although he has yet to win over two starts at today’s 1m trip, Comrade Bound ran well over 1m 1f on his penulitmate start when third at Wolvcerhampton off 1lb higher so there is no reason to believe he cannot be effective over it.

Comrade Bound also handles cut in the ground, and has been given a short break to freshen up since his last run on the all-weather.

The return to the turf, over which he has notched all four of his career success is a big plus, and at the odds on offer he looks well worth an each-way wager.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Comrade Bond (10/1 generally available – use BOG firms)
