Concrete and Clay to Curragh favour with punter

Concrete And Clay makes plenty of each-way appeal at 16/1 in the Irish Cesarewitch at the Curragh this afternoon (4.15).

Charles O’Brien’s gelding is a decent hurdler who has put in three solid efforts on the level this season.

Although on a career high mark despite not getting his head in front, he will relish the step up in trip to 2 miles and has proven form on soft going.

Having been campaigned over distances which are short of his best, it looks to me as if his shrewd handler has been plotting him up with this race in mind and it’s possible that the extreme distance will bring about further improvement in him.

With his up and coming young rider taking off 5lb he is only 7lb higher than when last successful on the flat at Limerick back in 2009, and given that he has improved significantly over the sticks since then he may not be as badly handicapped as first appears.

At 16/1 he looks overpriced in my book and sure to go well.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Concrete and Clay (16/1 genrally available – BOG)
