Crew Cut starts his campaign off on a potentially lenient mark in the 3.40 at Wolverhampton and rates the best bet on the card at 13/2.
Jeremy Gask’s gelding was a progressive sort last year, winning his maiden at Nottingham in good style before being placed in four of his next five starts in handicap company.
His last run saw him get collared close home and beaten 1/2 a length by Libys Dream over today’s course and distance, and the winner went on to beat Belgian Bill in a listed event off a mark of 81 before being outclassed in a Group 3 contest at the Curragh when officially rated 95.
The selection was receiving just 3lb from Tom Dascombe’s filly that day, and it was a very solid effort that makes him look very well treated in this off just 73.
Another plus is that he is still relatively unexposed in the context of this race, and with Raul De Silva taking off another 5lb he could be chucked-in if ready to go at the first time of asking.
The son of Acclamation also has a good draw in stall 2 to exploit for one that likes to race prominently, and everything looks in place for a huge run.
I think his form entitles him to be favourite for this, and at 13/2 with Betfred he looks terrific value.
