Desert Skyline looks worth an each-way wager at 12/1 in the Long Distance Cup 1.25 at Ascot today (1.25).
David Elsworth trained three-year-old has posted some solid efforts this season, including when sixth of 13 to Stradivarius in the Group 2 Queen’s Vase at the Royal meeting here in June where he lost ground when getting hampered at the start and was denied a clear run at a crucial stage before keeping on strongly to be beaten 3 1/2 lengths.
Desert Skyline also ran well to finish a plugging on 5 3/4 lengths third of 14 to Stradivarius in the 2m Group 1 Goodwood Cup and and second to Marmelo in a Group 2 at Deauville.
He comes in tpo the contest having gained a deserved big race success when landing he 2m 2f Group 2 Doncaster Cup, where he stayed on strongly to beat Thomas Hobson by 1 1/2 lengths.
It was a career best performance and he had Sheikhzayedroad who won this 12 months ago a further head back in third.
The drop back in trip shouldn’t be a problem given the underfoot conditions and with Silvestre De Sousa, who partnered him to success last time out, once again in the saddle I think he is capable of outrunning his odds in receipt of 8lb from the jolly Order Of St George.
Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Desert Skyline (12/1 bet365 – BOG, 1/4 odds 1,2,3)
