Easterby’s Boy fits the Bill at Wolves

My Boy Bill takes a further drop in grade in the 7.10 at Wolverhampton and looks overpriced at 14/1 to take advantage.

Mick Easterby’s gelding looked an above average juvenile when making a winning debut in the the Brocklesby at Doncaster back in March where he overcame inexperience to score in good style.

The son of Dutch Art was badly outpaced and held up well off the pace that day before coming with a storming late run under a hand and heels ride to beat Well Acquainted by 1/2 a length over the minimum trip.

The winning margin does not truly reflect the authority with which he won, and the runner-up has proved a useful sort who was just touched off by Hototo in a decent sales race at York and finished a fine runner-up in the Group 3 Tattersalls Stakes at Newmarket off an official rating of 96.

The selection was the off the track for 166 days before reappearing in a valuable class 2 sales race at York over where he raced keenly and weakened badly at the furlong marker.

In the end he finished a well beaten 17th of 20 to The Gold Cheongsam, but he was significantly quite well supported beforehand and it was a tough ask after such a lengthy absence over a trip which was probably too far for him.

Since then he has been well beaten in two runs on testing ground, in a class 2 race at York and a class 5 affair at Catterick, and on both occasions he ran as if conditions were all against him.

The handicapper has reacted by dropping him significantly in the weights, and having started life off in handicaps off a mark of 85 he is now running off just 72.

He looked fare better than that mark when winning the Brocklesby, and it’s interesting that connections are now trying him on the polytrack surface for the first time at a venue they do well at with their runners.

If it can enable him to recapture anything like the form he showed on his debut then he would take the world of beating, and I don’t think that he should be 14/1 in this grade considering he was sent off just 10/1 in a class 2 contest on his second start.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way My Boy Bill (14/1 bet365 – BOG, Sky Bet)
