Switchback is strongly fancied at 5/1 to take advantage of a lenient mark and land the 9.15 at Wolverhampton.
Mick Easterby’s charge scored this time last year at Beverley off a mark of 71 when trained by Sir Michael Stoute and now races off a career-low of 68.
He ran well three starts back when staying on to be beaten just 1/2 a length by Last Destination at Beverley off a rating of 70, and although he has failed to build on that in two subsequent starts he has to be of interest now switched to the all-weather.
It is a route which his shrewd handler has exploited many times this season, and given that he landed a double at the track last night with two well-backed runners it would be no surprise to see Switchback follow suit.
The gelding has not raced on the all-weather since August 2011, when running well in two contests at Kempton.
Those runs showed he was effective on the surface, and it;s interesting that he is now belatedly switching back to it again off his lowest rating ever.
To me he is a plot waiting to happen and this looks an ideal opening for him to score an overdue success.
