Emily Hall the Smart play at Southwell

Emily Hall makes her debut on the fibresand surface in the 2.25 at Southwell today and looks decent each-way value  at 12/1.

Bryan Smart’s filly has raced solely on the turg so far, with her sole success coming in a nursery at Redcar as a juvenile off a mark of 45.

However the daughter of Paris House put in some solid efforts last year without getting her head in front, most notably when runner-up to Orwelian at Redcar in a 17-runner affair off 47.

She also ran with credit on her last two starts at Newcastle and Beverley off marks of 47 and 50, and now gets into this off 49.

That should be more than workable on the pick of her form, and although she is unproven on the surface her yard has been very profitable to follow at this venue in recent years and is also in-form.

Indeed, her handler boasts an impressive 24% strike rate with his runners at the track in the past 12 months (6 winners and 4 places from 25 runners) so clearly knows what type of animal is needed for the unique surface.

Another plus is that unlike most of her rivals she is still relatively lightly raced and open to further improvement, and from a decent draw in stall 3 I can see her running a big race in the hands of Russ Kennemore.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Emily Hall (12/1 888sport, 11/1 Betfred, BetVictor, Hills, Stan James – BOG)
