Euro2012 betting preview: Holland v Germany

Old rivals Holland and Germany square off against each other tonight (7.45pm KO  Live on BBC1) in what promises to be a cracking Group B clash, and the best bet has got to be for both sides to score at 4/5.

All seven clashes between the sides in major competitions have seen both sides find the back of the net, so the standout 4/5 with Stan James about that happening gain look terrific value given that many firms go 4/6.

This will be the 39th time that they have met in internationals, and the Germans currently hold the upper hand having won 14 to Holland’s 10.

However it’s the Dutch that hold the advantage in previous European Championship clashes – winning two (1988 and 1992), drawing one (2004) and losing one (1980).

Germany have also won just three of their last 12 meetings (D5 L4), and their record in second-round group fixtures over the last few years is extremely poor.

They lost to Serbia at the last World Cup, to Croatia in their second match of Euro 2008, and have also failed to beat Ireland, Latvia and England at this stage of recent international competitions.

That makes them look vulnerable favourites for this and worth taking on at a best priced 6/4.

You can get 2/1 (general) for a Holland victory, and considering the quality of the side and the fact that they have two great strikers in the shape of Robin van Persie and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar that looks great value and worth a wager.

Huntelaar scored 12 during the qualifiers, and appeals in the first goalscorer market at a general price of 8/1.

However an even better bet could be for him to net anytime at a very tasty looking 11/4 with Betfred. He is as short as 11/8 to do so with sportingbet and generally a 2s shot, so 11/4 looks massive and should be snapped up.
