Exkaliber can put his rivals to the sword

Exkaliber looks worth siding with at 15/2 on his first start for Richard Ford in the 6.00 at Wolverhampton this evening.

The gelding is yet to win in 16 starts, but he was narrowly denied on three occasions in low-grade sprints last year when trained by Jeremy Gask.

The best of those arguably came three starts back at Kempton where he got collared in the closing stages to be beaten a neck by Iffranesia off mark of 49.

He was receiving 6lb from the winner that day, who has since gone on to score three times with latest win coming off a mark of 67.

That looks strong form in the context off this same grade contest in which the Exkaliber now gets into off 1lb lower (48).

Altough he has not been at his best in two subsequent starts since that run, the move to Ford may well freshen him up  and his handler has done well with similar types in the past.

It’s also interesting that his new connectiosn are now fitting him with the visor for the first time, and with Paul Mulrennan in the saddle he looks weighted to take the beating on the pick of his form.

Daily Sport recommended ebt: 2pts win Exkaliber (15/2 bet365, BetVictor, Stan James – BOG)
