Fascinating Rock looks cracking value at 8/1 in the Champion Stakes at Ascot today (3.45).
Dermot Weld’s five-year-old won the race last year when beating Found going away by 1 1/2 lengths and looked better than ever two starts back when slamming the same rival by 3 3/4 lengths in the Group 1 Tattersalls Gold Cup at the Curragh.
He cruised into the lead 2 1/2 furlongs from home and forged clear approaching the final furlong to scotre with tins in hand.
It was a performance of real class and there is no reason he should not confirm the placings with the runner-up who he now meets on just 1lb worse terms
Although only second last time out in a Group 3 at the same venue following a break, Fascinating Rock traditionally needs a run to put him straight.
He has been saved for this, is sure to be trained to the minute by the master that is Weld, and looks way overpriced compared to Found given he has beat her twice and she rocks up for this just 13 days after having a hard race when winning the Arc.
