Fast Shot is one horse who will revel in the testing conditions at Ayr today and looks good each-way value at 20/1 in the Silver Cup (2.20).
Tim Easterby’s gelding is a really tough sort who loves nothing more than a slog in the mud as he showed when keeping on strongly to beat Misplaced Fortune at Newcastle back in June off a mark of 86.
Prior to that his other success this season had also come in the mud at Ripon where he powered home to beat Trade Secret by 1 1/2 lengths.
Although he has failed to trouble the judge in his last four starts, he has run far better than his finishing positions indicates and on the last three of those occasions has not had underfoot conditions to suit.
He now has his ideal conditions, and this meeting is sure to have been his target all season.
The four-year-old is also now back down to a mark just 3lb higher than his last success and that gives him every chance in this as he performed well off 92 in his two starts after his win at Newcastle without being knocked about.
Another plus is that he has a potentially good draw in stall 3, as there are plenty of early paced sorts drawn on his side to give him a nice tow into the race.
