Hobbs looks a Dream bet at 8s

The mud-loving Hobbs Dream has her ideal conditions in the 3.10 at Fontwell today and looks an each-way steal at the 8/1 on offer.

Neil Mullholland’s charge showed that she revelled in testing conditions when landing back to back wins in staying handicap chases back January, and was clobbered by the handicapper as a result.

After scoring off 75 she defied a 7lb penalty with consummate ease when hacking up by 24 lengths at Hereford and was not surprisingly denied any chance of a hat-trick after being whacked up an incredible 24lbs.

However with the assessor did cut her some slack on his return to action last month (off 93) when she finished a well beaten second over today’s course and distance.

She looked badly in need of the run that day and was out on her feet when making a bad mistake at the last as lack of fitness told.

The mare was then well beaten on unsuitable ground at Towcester last time out, but is now down to a mark of 91 and has her optimum conditions.

With the talented Mark Quinlan taking off 3lb she is effectively just 6lb higher than her last win and that gives her a great chance of regaining the winning thread.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Hobbs Dream (8/1 Ladbrokes – BOG)

Plough into Snow Patrol at 14/1

Snow Patrol looked to be crying out for a step up in trip when an eye-catching fourth last time out and makes plenty of each-way appeal at 14/1 now getting it in the 3.40 at Fontwell.

Nigel Dunger’s gelding has not scored for a long time and has registered just one win in 24 starts over the obstacles.

However the 10-year-old has run respectably and finished in the frame on all his four starts this year, and is potentially well treated off a mark of 72 (was once rated 115).

He was a solid second off that rating when coming from well off the pace and staying on strongly to finish fourth to Gross Prophet over 2m 1f at Chepstow last time out, and the extra three furlongs today should play to his strengths.

The gelding is also getting the tongue tie refitted, and if that aide can squeeze out a bit of improvement he looks sure to go well from the foot of the weights in testing conditions which are absolutely ideal for him.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Snow Patrol (14/1 generally available – use BOG firms)
