Rising world prospect Frankie Gavin headlines a terrific fight card on Friday 28th October at Bowlers Exhibition Centre in Manchester.
The event will be promoted by Frank Warren in association with Steve Woods’ VIP Promotions, and BoxNation televising live and exclusive on Sky Ch456.
Unbeaten Birmingham ace Gavin defends his WBO Intercontinental Welterweight title for the second time against tough Frenchman Frank Haroche Horta.
Gavin, 26, rated number nine in the world by the WBO, is regarded as one our best talent’s and was the first ever British fighter to win the World Amateur Championships.
This will be his first fight under new trainers Jimmy and Mark Tibb’s since switching from Anthony Farnell and he’s relocated to East London.
Horta, from Lyon, will be the most experienced Gavin has faced in his eleven fights to date.
Southpaw Horta, 31, a former French welterweight champion and IBF International light-middleweight champion, has not been stopped in 39 fights.
“I’ve been working on new and different things in the gym with Jimmy and Mark and I’m looking forward to putting on a great show next month,” said Gavin.
“This will also be my debut on the new fight channel BoxNation so I’m looking to make a big impression with the viewers as well,”
“My trainers have been working me hard in the gym and now it’s up to me to perform on the night and show that I’m the best young talent out there,”
“Horta looks likes a tough fighter, I’ve seen some clips of him on the internet, but I think that after a few rounds I’ll have his measure and take him out,”
“He’s never been stopped in 39 fights so it’s a massive incentive for me to be the first to do, but I won’t be rushing in being careless to do it.”
Hot undefeated prospect Ronnie Heffron, 21, features as chief-support on the show and challenges for his first title when he takes on the Central Area Welterweight Champion Chris Johnson.
The 2009 ABA Champion was hot-pick for London 2012, but opted to turn professional and has amassed a 6-0 record.
He’s been called the new Ricky Hatton with his exciting all-action style, and he’s challenging for his first title quicker than the Hitman who went for the Cental Area Light-Welterweight title in his eleventh fight.
“It’s fantastic to be fighting for my first title in only my seventh fight,” Said Heffron.
“Ricky was a big idol of mine when I was in the amateurs so if I can win this title it will be a big statement at this stage of my career.”
A top undercard line-up features Accrington middleweight Luke Blackledge; Wigan light-heavyweight D.T Price; Manchester light-middle Matthew Hall; Angelssey super-featherweight Mark Evans and the pro-debut of Manchester super-middleweight James Pirie, plus more to be announced.
Tickets priced at £30 and £50 are available from www.vipbe.co.uk
Doors will open and 6:00pm and boxing will commence at 6:30pm.
