Following Queensberry Promotions explosive debut last Friday night at the York Hall, promoters Francis and George Warren are delighted to announce their next promotion.
Hard-hitting British Cruiserweight Champion Rob Norton headlines the show when he defends his title against heavy-handed Leon Williams at the York Hall on Friday 21st October, live and exclusive on BoxNation Sky Ch 456.
It’s going to be tough to top Liam Walsh’s tremendous fight against Paul Appleby for the Commonwealth Super-Featherweight title, that saw both men put everything on the line in an exciting and brutal ten round war that is already being hailed as the British Fight of the Year.
Norton, from Stourbridge in Worcestershire, won the British title in October 2008 against Mickey Steeds. He made the first defence against Sunderland’s David Dolan in February 2009 and also added the Commonwealth title. A win against Ismail Abdoul in November 2009 followed and then a rematch against Dolan ended in a draw.
He’ll have the experience going into the fight against Williams with 32 wins from 38 fights and 19 knockouts in a near 20 year career.
The younger Williams, from Streatham, has only been a pro for over two years, he won the Southern Area title last year when he beat J J Ojuederie and made the first defence in May this year against Danny Couzens – a fourth round KO.
Williams’ last fight was a fifth round TKO of Nick Okoth in a six round contest.
Chief support sees the exciting and unbeaten Ryan Walsh from Cromer challenge Liam Richard for the Vacant English Super-Bantamweight title.
Walsh, who was ringside cheering Liam in his fight against Appleby, aims to become the second brother in the family to win a championship belt.
A talented line-up, featuring some of the best talent in Queensberry’s stable, includes big ticket seller and unbeaten Penge welterweight prospect Bradley Skeete, Stanford-Le-Hope light-middle John Wayne Hibbert; Croydon light-welter Danny Davis and the professional debut of Peckham welterweight Johnny Garton.
Francis Warren said, “What an unbelievable fight it was between Liam and Paul on Friday night and Queensberry Promotions are proud to have staged a fight of that calibre on the debut show. It thrilled the fans in the York Hall and viewers on the first ever broadcast of BoxNation. We follow that up with another great domestic fight between Norton and Williams for the British Cruiserweight title and it’s another hard fight to call. Norton’s age and experience versus Williams’ youth and desire, both will be really up for the fight and will it give it their all to win.”
George Warren said, “Under our banner Queensberry Promotions we want to put on great and competitive 50/ 50 fights for the fans and BoxNation viewers and we had that on Friday between Liam and Paul, which turned out to be a classic. That fight will be hard to top, but we follow it up with an intriguing fight between Norton and Williams and our young unbeaten cruiserweight prospect Tony Conquest will be watching very closely.”
Tickets priced £40 and £60 are available from the Queensberry Promotions Box Office on 01992 550 888 or www.frankwarren.tv
