David Pipe has been making hay in handicaps of late and Gaspara makes plenty of appeal at 6/1 to give him another winner in the finale at Taunton today (3.05) after an eye-catching reappearance.
The mare was heavily backed when first past the post but subsequently disqualified in handicap at Newton Abbot in April last year off a mark of 107 and was put up a whopping 12lb by the handicapper as a result.
It was therefore no surprise that she failed to get competitive in her next two starts, but she shaped really well after a lengthy lay off when a rallying 6th of 11 to Mister Chancer at Taunton 12 days ago.
she was in mid-division for much of that contest until losing her pitch four out, but picked up again two flights from home to keep on well and be beaten just over 13 1/2 lengths.
Given that was her first run for 439 days she looks sure to strip fitter this afternoon, and she is now back down to a mark only 3lb higher than the Newton Abbot contest which she won with tons to spare before losing the prize in the stewards room.
That gives her an outstanding chance from a handicapping perspective, and with her stable in flying form she looks to hold every chance of scoring an overdue success.
To me she looks to have been plotted up to land a punt, and it will be interesting to see if the money comes for her this morning.
The best price currently on offer is 6/1 and at those odds she simply has to be backed.
